Message from our Mayor

This is Moriarty

Out here, we prefer our boots dusty, our hand shakes firm, and our doors open. We are rooted in resilience. Through settlement, growth, fire, drought and re-birth, we remain. We are a close-knit community, living for our families and welcoming our guests. We value authenticity above all else, and always make time for the little things. Whether it’s a warm pot of green chile stew, the quick kiss of rain against the dry earth or the miles of freedom that unfold outside our doors, we are thankful for all that we have. Our sunrises are just as important as our sunsets, in the same way that our triumphs are just as important as our struggles. We keep our hopes high and our roots firmly in the ground, sewn by the generations of farmers and ranchers that have come before us. Occupying an historic stretch of Route 66, we pride ourselves on upholding the values that our city was founded on: hard work, humility, honesty, friendliness and faith. With open arms, we welcome you to come and experience it for yourself. This is Moriarty, a place with room to grow closer.

Our History
Runs deep.

The City of Moriarty was named for the first permanent family to settle in the community. Michael Timothy Moriarty, his wife and their three children arrived (at what is now Moriarty) in the fall of 1887, and homesteaded their land.
